Palmer Lake Real Estate

One of three charming communities in the Tri-Lakes region, Palmer Lake is ideal for homebuyers in search of scenic, small-town living. Nestled between Colorado Springs and Denver, it’s also a nice option for commuters who want seamless access to the state’s major metropolitan centers.

With a stunning lakeside location next to the beautiful Pike National Forest, Palmer Lake provides residents with incredible access to the famous outdoor Colorado experience. It also plays host to a thriving small business community, an impressive arts scene and great shopping opportunities in the larger nearby communities of Monument and Colorado Springs. This informative guide provides insight into the community, along with a regularly updated list of Palmer Lake homes for sale right now.

A Long History

Located off I-25 near two metropolitan centers, Palmer Lake is one of the faster-growing communities on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. Although the community was founded by General William Jackson Palmer in 1871, the area’s earliest inhabitants were native-American tribes that date to the ancient Folsom period, 10,000 years ago.

While the town offers newly built real estate and modern conveniences, it proudly celebrates its storied past. You can get a feel for the community’s fascinating history and heritage by visiting the Lucretia Vaile Museum which houses many articles, photos and artifacts of the historical Monument, Palmer Lake and Palmer Divide areas.

What Makes Palmer Lake Unique?

While more and more of the local area is now being dedicated to new residential development, the entire Tri-Lakes region is best known for its beautiful watering holes—Monument Lake, Lake Woodmoor and, of course, Palmer Lake. The area also offers an extensive trail system that provides great hiking, biking and snowshoeing through a breathtaking natural landscape.

Palmer Lake is directly adjacent to the legendary Santa Fe Regional Trail, which runs along the old Topeka, Atchison and Santa Fe Railroads through Monument to the southernmost boundary of the U.S. Air Force Academy.

One of the longest continuous trails in all of El Paso County, this well-traveled graveled route offers diverse outdoor activities including hiking, biking and horseback riding. During the colder season, the area is also a popular hotspot for snowshoers and cross-country skiers.

Downtown Palmer Lake offers several distinctive shops and a historical museum run by the local Palmer Lake Historical Society. Here, you can find everything from homemade jewelry to rare antiques. The downtown area also offers popular eateries and cozy restaurants, which provide everything from fine dining to a traditional steak joint.

Living in Palmer Lake

With only around 2,000 residents, Palmer Lake provides a small-town feel near all the benefits of larger metropolitan areas. Just a short drive from Colorado Springs, the community offers calm, quiet living within minutes of the arts, sporting and entertainment attractions of a big city.

Located in the middle of the Pikes Peak Region, the community provides easy access to both Colorado Springs and Denver. This makes it an enticing choice for commuters with families who prefer a quiet, suburban lifestyle near major employment opportunities.

Palmer Lake is popular for its unique local appeal and its proximity near other communities in the Tri-Lakes. The communities in the Tri-Lakes area provide a modern school system that has received an A for overall quality. Palmer Lake residents enjoy high school curriculums geared toward preparing students for higher education at state colleges and major out-of-state universities.

Known for its friendly people, beautiful scenery and outdoor recreation, Palmer Lake is only a short drive from the United States Air Force Academy, where people gather during the fall to watch Mountain West NCAA football games at Falcon Stadium. Palmer Lake is also about an hour’s drive from Denver, where you can browse galleries and museums or treat the family to professional football, basketball, baseball and hockey.

Palmer Lake real estate tends to be more affordable compared to home prices in Denver and Colorado Springs. This is one of the major reasons so many commuters choose to live in the Tri-Lakes area.
